Thomas Huckens1

M, b. 1651, d. 1714
     Thoms Huckins, the second of the name, was a carpenter. He resided on the Robinson farm in Barnstable, owned a large real estate, and was a man of good character and influence. By an entry on the town records June 1, 1688, it appears that he bought the lands of the Rev. Mr. Thomas Walley. He also owned the Great Neck at Cooper's Pond, on the west of Joseph Bearse's land, on which he built a house. His estate was settled December 11, 1714, and he probably died that years. Thomas was born in 1651 at Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts.2,3 He was the son of Thomas Huckins and Mary Wells. He married Hannah Chipman on 1 May 1680 at Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts.2 He married Sarah Pope on 17 August 1698 at Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts.1 Thomas died in 1714 at Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts.1

John Chipman1

     John, only son of Mr. Thomas Chipman of Brinspittal, Dorsetshire, England. He came to Plymouth 1630/31, in service of his cousin Richard Darby, whose father was custodian of certain money due him from the estate of his father. He settled in Barnstable.

Elder John Chipman's first wife, and the mother of his children, was Hope2 Howland (John1), who died at Barnstable, 8/18 January, 1683/4. Her gravestone is still standing in the old cemetery. His second wife was Ruth, the daughter of William Sargent and successively the widow of Jonathan Winslow of Marshfield and Richard Bourne of Barnstable. She died at Sandwich in 1713.

Elder Chipman died at Sandwich 7/17 April, 1708, and his will is recorded in the Barnstable County Probate Records,

The Last Will and Testament of Elder John Chipman of Sandwich in ye County of Barnstable In ye Province of the Massachusetts Bay In New England
I John Chipman being Sensible of the uncrtainty of This present Life and being Desirous to Sett Things in Order so as to prevent (as far as in me Lyes) all occasions of Contest among my Relations after my Deceese; and being att this present Thro the mercy of God In Compitent Health and of Disposing mind & memory Do Therefore according to my Duty make This my Last Will & Testament and Do hereby Revoke and Annull all former Will and Wills Testament or Testaments which I have heretofore made by word or writing: and this shall be accounted accepted and Stand for my Last Will and Testament as followeth: viz: That above all I Will and bequeath my soul to God in Jesus Christ my Lord who Gave it and my body to Decent burial; And as to that Temporal Estate which God has been pleased to besto upon me my will is as followeth Impr That all my Just Debts and Dues to any man in Right or Conscience belonging; and my funerall Expencies shall be first paid out of my Estate & fully Discharged: That is to Say: out of my movable Estate
Item I Will and bequeath to Ruth my Dear and Loving Wife all whatsoever is Left of Her Estate which I had with her when I married her I also give her on half part of my whole personall Estate which shall be found In Sandwich att my Decease Besides and moreover all the Carts plows and husbandry Implyments as also all the Corn and meat flax & wool yarn and Cloth That is in the House att my Decease; and I Do also Give Her Twenty Pounds in money which is Due to her by ye Compact made between us at our Intermarrage: she according to sd Compact upon payment of this Twenty Pounds to Quitt Claim to all Right & Title to & [p. 229] Intrest In my Howsing and Lands att Barnstable: and This Twenty Pounds shall be paid her out of That money of mine in ye Hands of my friend mr Jonathan Russell of Barnstable
